Moving from the city to the country has always involved challenges, and for Mikaela Gordon, the new teacher in town, the challenges seem enormous. Not only does she need to learn many new things about the Australian farming way of life, she is confronted with a crotchety principal at school and an irritating young farmer who has no doubt that she will fail miserably in her endeavours to fit in. Eventually Mikaela begins to discover joy in her new surroundings, but just as she is starting to find her feet, she stumbles upon a dark secret that rips at the very heart of the community and threatens to destroy the lives and loves of those around her, putting her faith to the test again.
Life seems to have worked out perfectly for Mikaela Gordon. She has a wonderful man, a lovely house in the country and a rewarding job. It’s as if all her dreams have come true. But living in the Australian outback is not always easy, and her life changes even more dramatically when two strangers enter her world, one bringing happiness and the other despair. Suddenly her dreams vanish as reality sinks in, and Mikaela wonders if she has made the biggest mistake of her life.
Drought has come to Turramore. Mikaela and Thomas are forced to leave the farm and move to the city so that Thomas can find work. But it is not an easy decision and when they arrive in Melbourne, trials come at them from every direction. Thomas encounters a difficult boss and Mikaela discovers that her brother is struggling with his own dark nightmare. The move that should have been the solution to everything becomes a challenging journey that leads the couple into difficulties that each will have to overcome.
